FBGP now a Registered Charity

The trustees of Friends of Bangor Garth Pier are delighted to announce that we are now recognized as a registered charity. We have received the following message from the Charity Commission:

We are satisfied that FRIENDS OF BANGOR GARTH PIER is a charity and it has been entered onto the Register of Charities with the Registered Charity Number 1198201.

The decision to register was based on our assessment of the information supplied during the application process and the declarations given in the trustee declaration form and we are satisfied that FRIENDS OF BANGOR GARTH PIER is established for charitable purposes only for the public benefit.

The registration process has taken longer than we had at first anticipated and involved a rewrite of the original constitution (which was not acceptable to the Charity Commission) along with making sure that we had other relevant policies in place.

Most importantly it now means that we can now continue with our plans to fulfill our Objects as a charity:

For the public benefit, to support the protection, preservation, restoration and improvement of the structure and buildings of historical and architectural merit of Bangor Garth Pier and to advance the education of the public in understanding the history and heritage of this Victorian structure, and its location on the Menai Strait.

We will continue to work closely with Bangor City Council to achieve our aims and we have ideas for both fundraising and community involvement.
